Coal Geology: Coal deposits formed during late cretaceous into the deposit; Fruitland Formation above the Pictured Cliffs Sandstone. The main coal seam, average thickness of 13.8 feet, divides in some places by small partings. One upper seam, average thickness of 4.5 feet, is separated by 100 feet of parting from the main seam. Both these seams are to be involved in a deep strip operation.
