Hazard limb warning: Some species of trees commonly “self prune.” Poplars are most known for branch drop and cottonwoods (Populous deltoids) are poplars. Their branches tend to drop Spring through Fall with most drops happening at the time the leaves are falling. While stressors can contribute (high winds, heavy snowfall, ice, disease and insects) the branches drop under healthy circumstances as well.
