Are you looking for a way to give back to your community? Do you love nature? Gardening? Birding? Educating? You will learn all about volunteering for New Mexico State Parks, as well as the ins and outs of our Nature Center and our volunteer needs. Join our vibrant community of volunteers by participating in this free one-day training! By the end of the training, we hope you have a sense of what type of work you’d most like to do and get moving on next steps! Nature Walk
Enjoy a leisurely exploration of the bosque ecosystem with a naturalist guide! The mostly flat, sandy trail is about one mile round trip and the walk lasts about an hour and a half. We recommend that you wear a hat and sunscreen and bring water. This walk is appropriate for adults and children. Meet your guide just west of the parking lot by the bench and bulletin boards. Parking is $5 per vehicle. Friends of FRGNC members enter free with valid permit displayed.

Leasburg Dam
STAR PROGRAM
Star show begins at SUNDOWN. Each month we open the Leasburg Dam Observatory to the public. Members of the Astronomical Society of Las Cruces operate a large 16" telescope as well as other telescopes just outside the observatory. Through these telescopes, you can see amazing deep space objects, such as: globular star clusters, planetary nebulae, distant planets and far away galaxies!

Oliver Lee
Oliver Lee Ranch House Tour
In the early 19th century, Oliver Lee was a prominent rancher and politician: serving as a senator and state representative. The reconstructed house, originally built in 1893, is undergoing renovations. The displays are not intact, but you can still view the house. Your walking tour of Lee's Dog Canyon Ranch Headquarters will provide a glimpse of the history of early ranching in the Tularosa Basin. Meet at the visitor center. You will drive your own vehicle, following a staff member to the Ranch House about 1.5 miles away. We recommend you bring water to drink. A $10 per vehicle day use fee is required upon entry for non-New Mexico residents.

Walk it off! Join us for our annual post-holiday hike, aka the Stuffing Strut, through the rolling hills of Cerrillos Hills State Park. Whether you're a local or visiting from out of state, this event promises refreshing outdoor fun for everyone! Date: November 29 Time: 1 PM - 3 PM Location: Main Park entrance, 1/2 mile north of Cerrillos Village on County Road 59 Out-of-state visitors, make your arrival seamless by bringing exact cash or a check for the park fee of $10 per vehicle, and follow the self-permit process upon arrival. This event is free for New Mexico residents or those with a valid New Mexico State Park pass.

Bird Tour
Please join us on a guided bird identification tour. Enjoy a leisurely walk through the Leasburg Dam State Park trails with a Mesilla Valley Audubon Society bird identification expert. They will teach you how to improve your bird identification skills. Bring binoculars, comfortable hiking shoes and dress for the weather. WE MEET at 8 AM - AT THE VISITOR CENTER.
