Sustainability Merit Badge
Designed to meet most of the requirements of the Sustainability Merit Badge, however, some requirements will not be completed in class. With outside work, the participants can finish with the counselor by email. Bring a sack lunch, no food is available on site.
The program is free, the regular Park Entrance Fee applies for all vehicles. Please bring exact cash or check or display a valid New Mexico State Parks annual pass/permit. Pre-registration through a responsible adult's email is mandatory. Membership in Scouting is not required; however the program is geared towards Scouting Badge Requirements. Email Robert.smith@emnrd.nm.gov to sign up. Space is limited to 12.

5th Annual SVH 5K Walk/Run
Get ready to walk or run for a great cause at the 5th Annual SVH 5K Walk/Run! In coordination with the Friends of Elephant Butte Lake State Park and the Sierra Vista Hospital, this exciting event is set for Saturday, October 11th, at 9:00 AM. You'll get to enjoy a unique course that takes you right across the Elephant Butte Dam! The race kicks off at the Dirt Dam, located on Highway 195, south of the intersection with Highway 179. The proceeds from this event will support fantastic local efforts. These funds will benefit Sierra County Cancer Assistance (SCCA) and help provide 3D mammograms at Sierra Vista Hospital when insurance doesn't cover the cost. Register early for just $45 plus tax to secure your spot. Plus, the first 150 people to register will receive a free T-shirt! Nature Walk
Enjoy a leisurely exploration of the bosque ecosystem with a naturalist guide!
The mostly flat, sandy trail is about one mile round trip and the walk lasts about an hour and a half. We recommend that you wear a hat and
sunscreen and bring water. This walk is appropriate for adults and children.
Meet your guide just west of the parking lot by the bench and bulletin boards.
Parking is $5 per vehicle. Friends of FRGNC members enter free with valid permit displayed.

STAR PROGRAM
Star show begins at SUNDOWN.
Each month we open the Leasburg Dam Observatory to the public. Members of the Astronomical Society of Las Cruces operate a large 16" telescope as well as other telescopes just outside the observatory.
Through these telescopes, you can see amazing deep space objects, such as: globular star clusters, planetary nebulae, distant planets and far away galaxies!

Feel the crisp autumn air and the excitement of a new tradition! Join us for a spooktacular afternoon at Elephant Butte Lake State Park's annual Trunk or Treat event on 10/25/2025.
From 4 PM to 6 PM, our upper boat ramp parking lot will transform into a whimsical wonderland of decorated cars, costumes, and, most importantly, candy! Bring your little ghouls and goblins in their best costumes to safely collect treats. It's a fun, family-friendly way to celebrate the season with a beautiful lakeside backdrop.
