Celebrate Boating Safety with a splash of Dr. Seuss fun at the Tucumcari Fairgrounds! We’re combining the whimsy of Dr. Seuss with important boating safety tips for an unforgettable event. Whether you're a seasoned boater or just starting to learn, there’s something for everyone. Let’s learn, laugh, and stay safe on the water with a little Seuss magic!

Claws, Hides and Horns
Park Rangers will present a program on area wildlife and how they adapt to survive and thrive in our local environment. We will feature hides from Mountain Lions, Bears, and Bobcats. Meet near the Visitor Center. The Regular Park Entrance Fee is waived for NM Residents but applies for out-of-state residents ($10). Please bring exact cash or check or display a valid New Mexico State Parks annual pass/permit.

Mesilla Valley Bosque
Monthly Bird ID Walking Tour
Enjoy a guided walk and learn how to identify various resident and migratory bird species from a local expert birder and member of the Mesilla Valley Audubon Society. Plan on walking approx, two miles roundtrip on an easy to moderate trail. A $10 per vehicle day use fee is required upon entry for non-New Mexico residents. Please bring exact cash or a check, or show a valid New Mexico State Parks annual pass or permit. Free entry for New Mexico residents!

Cimarron Canyon
Environmental Science Merit Badge
Designed to meet most of the requirements of the Environmental Science Merit Badge, however some requirements will not be completed in class, such as 2a & b, 6 a or b, and 9. Bring a sack lunch, no food available on site. Open to all youth (Ages 10 1/2 to 17 years old) The program is free for NM Residents and the regular Park Entrance Fee applies for out-of-state residents. Please bring exact cash or check or display a valid New Mexico State Parks annual pass/permit. Pre-registration through a responsible adult's email is mandatory. Membership in Scouting is not required; however the program is geared towards Scouting Badge Requirements. Email robert.smith@emnrd.nm.gov to sign up. Space is limited to 12.

Camp Furlong Day 2025
Join us for Pancho Villa State Park’s Annual Camp Furlong Day, a unique celebration of history as part of the greater Fiesta de Amistad in Columbus, NM! This event commemorates the park’s storied past, including its role in the 1916 raid by Mexican revolutionary Pancho Villa, which led to the historic Punitive Expedition. Discover the fascinating connections between Columbus and the US Army’s Camp Furlong, which served as a pivotal post during this era. Throughout the day, enjoy guided tours of the park's Exhibit Hall, offering insights into the region’s heritage. At 9 AM, join us for a historical walking tour of Columbus, where you'll learn about the village’s rich past. The day also features presentations by three special guest speakers, with historical talks and slide shows in the Exhibit Hall. Don’t miss this opportunity to delve into local history, engage with expert speakers, and connect with the vibrant community of Columbus.

Leasburg Dam
STAR PROGRAM
Star show begins at SUNDOWN. Each month we open the Leasburg Dam Observatory to the public. Members of the Astronomical Society of Las Cruces operate a large 16" telescope as well as other telescopes just outside the observatory. Through these telescopes, you can see amazing deep space objects, such as: globular star clusters, planetary nebulae, distant planets and far away galaxies! Entry to the park is free for NM Residents and the regular Park Entrance Fee applies for out-of-state residents. Leasburg Dam
Bird Tour
Please join us on a guided bird identification tour. Enjoy a leisurely walk through the Leasburg Dam State Park trails with a Mesilla Valley Audubon Society bird identification expert. They will teach you how to improve your bird identification skills. Bring binoculars, comfortable hiking shoes and dress for the weather. WE MEET at 8 AM - AT THE VISITOR CENTER. Entry to the park is free for NM Residents and the regular Park Entrance Fee applies for out-of-state residents.
