Birthday Burro Hike
Join local burros for a special birthday hike to celebrate Cerrillos Hills State Park's 17th birthday! Ranger Brynn will guide you through 1,100 years of mining history and share about the historical significance of pack burros in the mountain west. The invitation is open to the public, local burros, and their handlers to join the fun! We will cover a 1.5-mile loop on Jane Calvin Sanchez Trial and the county road.
Expect some hiking uphill and varied surfaces ranging from sandy to rocky. Pack snacks, and water, and wear sturdy shoes. Dogs are not recommended to attend this hike.

Leasburg Dam
STAR PROGRAM
Star show begins at SUNDOWN.
Each month we open the Leasburg Dam Observatory to the public. Members of the Astronomical Society of Las Cruces operate a large 16" telescope as well as other telescopes just outside the observatory.
Through these telescopes, you can see amazing deep space objects, such as: globular star clusters, planetary nebulae, distant planets and far away galaxies!

Oasis Star Party
Join the Clovis Astronomy Club for a night of star gazing. This will take place in the visitor center parking lot at dusk. Regular entrance fees apply for non-annual permit holders. All ages are invited to attend. No pets will be allowed at this event. Bring your binoculars, telescopes, red lens flashlights, etc. if you have them and enjoy a night of learning under the stars. **NO animals allowed at this event**

Oasis
Biggest Catfish Challenge Derby
Come to Oasis on September 5, 2026!!! Starting at 3 p.m. registration will start for the Biggest Catfish Challenge Derby held by the Friends of Oasis. This event is open to all ages with a reminder that 12 years of age and older must have a valid NM fishing license. There will be an adult and junior category for first place through fourth place cash prizes!! Out of state participants are welcome!! There will also be 2 raffle prizes (CASH ONLY) to enter and you must be present to win. Derby fees ($5 per person) and park entrance fees must be paid at the park office in CASH ONLY. Winning fish will be based on weight and length. We look forward to seeing you then!

Free, 8-hour class offered by New Mexico State Parks. There is no fee to take this class. Education is the key to becoming a better, more knowledgeable boater. In New Mexico, many boaters are required by law to complete a boating safety course and receive a boater education card. Everyone is eligible and encouraged to take the course and receive a card.
