With more than 1,000 species, bats comprise 1/4 of the world's total mammal population. The only mammal that flies, these creatures have more in common with us than the mice they resemble.
Join us and learn about different species of bats, how they hunt, their anatomy and life cycle, explore benefits and dispel myths associated with these amazing animals.
Our world would be very different without bats.

Walk it off! Join us for our annual post-holiday hike, aka the Stuffing Strut, through the rolling hills of Cerrillos Hills State Park.
Whether you're a local or visiting from out of state, this event promises refreshing outdoor fun for everyone!

Time: 1 PM - 3 PM
Location: Main Park entrance, 1/2 mile north of Cerrillos Village on County Road 59
Out-of-state visitors, make your arrival seamless by bringing exact cash or a check for the park fee of $10 per vehicle, and follow the self-permit process upon arrival. This event is free for New Mexico residents or those with a valid New Mexico State Park pass.

First Day Hike
Celebrate the New Year and Cerrillos Hills State Park's 14th consecutive First Day Hike! This year's edition will feature a trivia contest with prizes and interactive frivolity!
The planned route will allow a mid-point drop off giving you 1.5 miles for your first hike of 2026. The full hike will cover just over 3 miles.
Expect some hiking uphill and varied surfaces ranging from sandy to rocky. Pack snacks, and water, and wear sturdy shoes. Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash at all times.
