Christmas on the Chicorica
The Friends of Sugarite Canyon will be hosting their annual Christmas on chicorica creek in the Sugarite Canyon Boardwalk area. Donations are appreciated. Come enjoy a walk among the decorated Riverwalk complete with star gazing and warm beverages. Marshmallow roasting over a barrel fire will be available to visitors. Dress warmly as the event occurs predominantly outdoors. Santa and the his coal miner friend will be present for photographs from 6-8pm.

Sugarite Canyon
First Day Ranger led hike
Sugarite Canyon will plan a ranger led interpretive hike on the first day of the year. Participating visitors are encouraged to be prepared for winter hiking conditions (Call the contact No. listed for updated trail conditions as this event approaches. Coal camp trail, approximately 1.75 miles, elevation gain 120'. The regular Park Entrance Fee applies. Please bring exact cash or check or display a valid New Mexico State Parks annual pass.

Sugarite Canyon
Annual Polar Plunge
Sugarite Canyon's Lake Maloya will have an opening made in the ice where persons can choose to go for a swim in the freezing lake waters. This event is open to all day users between the hours of 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. The regular Park Entrance Fee applies. Please bring exact cash or check or display a valid New Mexico State Parks annual pass.
