We want everyone to go home safe. Wear life jackets when in or around water for your safety.
    Posting Dates: 08-01-2024 - ongoing
The following campgrounds will be closed for the winter season October 1 through April 30: Pinion Beach, Shale Point, South Point, Sands Cove, Little ABQ, and The Peninsula. The main park campgrounds (Grassy Point and Elk Run) will close between December 1 and April 1. The dam Day Use Area and the Hargrove's Primitive Camping Area remain open all winter.

Closures

Due to the onset of sub-freezing temperatures, the comfort station at El Vado is winterized and closed from October 15 through May 15.

Restrictions

Stage I Fire Restrictions: Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, charcoal, coal, or wood stove is prohibited except in State Park developed camp and picnic grounds where grills and stoves are provided by the State Park. The use of devices fueled solely by liquid petroleum or LPG fuels that can be turned on and off is allowed. Such devices can only be used in an area that is barren or cleared of all overhead and surrounding flammable materials within three (3) feet of the device. Smoking is prohibited, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site/improved site, or while standing in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable material.
