Beginning June 1, 2022 the park water system will be closed. There will be no water available and the comfort stations and dump station will be closed. Visitors are encouraged to bring all their water to the park for their stay. 5/10/2022 - ongoing

El Vado Lake (575) 588-7247
A large-scale renovation project of El Vado Dam has forced the closure of the Day Use Area at El Vado Dam. Please stay clear of all construction areas. 4/11/2022 - ongoing
Due to issues with water supply, the comfort station will be will be available during limited hours only (usually between 4 and 6 pm daily). Additionally, treated water is available in the afternoons and by request, as needed. Please bring adequate water storage containers, and we can resupply as required. Apologies for any inconvenience. 6/4/2022 - 12/1/2022
The Rio Chama Hiking Trail between El Vado and Heron Lake State Parks is currently closed to all users except hunters in possession of a valid hunting tag for the Rio Chama Wildlife Management Area. 9/12/2022 - 12/1/2022
Most primitive camping areas at El Vado Lake State Park have closed for the season. These areas include South Point, Sands Cove, The Peninsula, and The North El Vado Recreation Area. The Pinon Beach and Shale Point campgrounds (developed sites) have also closed for the season. Developed campsites at Grassy Point and Elk Run are scheduled to close for the winter season on December 1, 2022. 9/17/2022 - 12/1/2022

Comfort Station # 1 is closed due to plumbing problems. 7/14/2022 - 4/30/2023

Heron Lake (575) 588-7470
Heron Lake is closed to the use of operation of all Off Highway Vehicles (OHV's). This includes but is not limited to Off Highway Motorcycles, Side-By Sides, Quad Runners, and Snowmobiles. 7/27/2021 - ongoing
The stairway to the suspension bridge located at Rio Chama Trailhead is closed. Access to the Rio Chama can be gained using the BOR access road. 8/22/2021 - ongoing
Rio Chama Trailhead and access to the Rio Chama Trail is closed due to construction in the area. Access to the Rio Chama River can be gained at the North El Vado Day Use Area. 12/20/2021 - ongoing
Due to low water levels we are unable to provide courtesy docks for boaters. 6/22/2022 - ongoing
The following boat ramps are closed due to low water conditions: Willow, Sierra Vista, La Laja and Primitive. Small vessels and paddle craft can be launched from the shoreline. 9/19/2022 - ongoing
The following campgrounds and primitive camping areas are closed for the season: Brushy Point, Island View, Salmon Run, Ponderosa, Little Oso, and Rincon. 9/19/2022 - 5/14/2023
