Trail Closures-The Colin Neblett backcountry including Tolby and Maverick Trails are closed to all entry during deer fawning and elk calving May 15-July 31. Clear Creek Trail remains open May 15-July 31. The backcountry and ALL trails are closed during big game hunts as published in the NM Rules and Info Booklet. Licensed hunters and their hunting party are exempt from closures during their hunt/scouting period.

Due to the onset of sub-freezing temperatures, the comfort station at El Vado is winterized and closed from October 15 through May 15.

Due to the inherent hazards posed by low water levels, the Cliffs Area of the state park will remain closed indefinitely.

Effective immediately, access to Rattlesnake Island is restricted. This urgent measure is in response to both the upcoming July 4th fireworks celebrations and unusually low water levels. The primary goal is to safeguard sensitive cultural resources that have become exposed by the receding water, while also managing public safety during the holiday period. The closure will be lifted when water levels rise after the winter season. Please obey all posted barricades and signage. Failure to do so will result in citations and/or expulsion from the park.

Please be advised that the South Monticello and Rock Canyon boat ramps are currently closed due to low water levels. We anticipate reopening when water levels increase, and conditions allow.

Heron Lake is closed to the use of operation of all Off Highway Vehicles (OHV's). This includes but is not limited to Off Highway Motorcycles, Side-By Sides, Quad Runners, and Snowmobiles.

The comfort stations will remain closed for the foreseeable future. Repairs to underground sewer lines were more complex than originally thought. Staff are working with contractors on repairs as fast as we can. We know this is an inconvenience and ask for your patience to correct this multiyear problem that visitors have been dealing with. Our hope is a permanent fix that will allow the comfort station to remain open for your use in the future with no closures for sewer line backups.
