The Lea Lake North Day Use Area is closed due to Lea Lake overflow causing flooding.

Stage II Fire Restrictions: Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, charcoal, coal, or wood stove is prohibited. The use of devices fueled solely by liquid petroleum or LPG fuels that can be turned on and off is allowed. Such devices can only be used in an area that is barren or cleared of all overhead and surrounding flammable materials within three (3) feet of the device. Smoking is prohibited, except within an enclosed vehicle or building.

A large-scale renovation project of El Vado Dam has forced the closure of the Day Use Area at El Vado Dam. Please stay clear of all construction areas.

Developed campsites at El Vado Lake State Park are currently closed for the winter season. Developed campgrounds are scheduled to reopen on April 1, 2023.

Heron Lake is closed to the use of operation of all Off Highway Vehicles (OHV's). This includes but is not limited to Off Highway Motorcycles, Side-By Sides, Quad Runners, and Snowmobiles.

The stairway to the suspension bridge located at Rio Chama Trailhead is closed. Access to the Rio Chama can be gained using the BOR access road.

Rio Chama Trailhead and access to the Rio Chama Trail is closed due to construction in the area. Access to the Rio Chama River can be gained at the North El Vado Day Use Area.

The following campgrounds and primitive camping areas are closed for the season: Brushy Point, Island View, Salmon Run, Ponderosa, Little Oso, and Rincon.

Comfort Stations located at Willow, Blanco, and Island View campgrounds have been closed for the season. Vault toilets can be located at the Willow Boat Launch and across from site #44 Blanco Campground.

Starting October 1st, Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department (EMNRD) State Parks Division announces seasonal changes to services within state parks, including changes to operational hours and some comfort stations. Visitors are encouraged to “know before they go” by checking the New Mexico State Parks section of the EMNRD website as seasonal changes vary by park.
