If you end up at Smith Ranch, turnaround head south and make a left onto HWY 187 for six miles and Caballo Lake’s main entrance will be on the left side.

The Lakeside Recreation Area-to include Comfort Stations, Stallion Campground, Appaloosa Campground & Palomino Campground will undergo renovations, upgrades, and repairs to its water supply system. The is scheduled to begin on April 22nd, 2024, and is approximated to finish on June 4rd, 2024. There will be no water supply for the duration of the project.

We strongly encourage you to utilize the Riverside Campground, located below Caballo Dam, to fill your holding tanks prior to arriving at Lakeside Recreational Area. The Riverside Campground has two sets of Comfort Stations with showers and washrooms. You can also utilize Percha Dam State Park to fill your holding tanks or to use the showers. Stage I Fire Restrictions: Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire, campfire, charcoal, coal, or wood stove is prohibited except in State Park developed camp and picnic grounds where grills and stoves are provided by the State Park. However, campfires are allowed on the lake shoreline in areas cleared of flammable vegetation for at least 30 feet.

The use of devices fueled solely by liquid petroleum or LPG fuels that can be turned on and off is allowed. Such devices can only be used in an area that is barren or cleared of all overhead and surrounding flammable materials within three (3) feet of the device. Smoking is prohibited, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site/improved site, or while standing in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable material.
