Date Detail
11/14/2011 Initial C-141 1RP-11-11-2758 - A section of the A19-19 pipeline failed due to internal pitting and corrosion. The majority of the corrosion was on the top portion of the pipeline. At this time, it is not definitively known whether or not the cause of the pitting was due to oxygen contamination of the gas stream, excessive moisture or some other reaction with the hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide components in the natural gas stream. The pipline was isolated and depressured as expeditiously and safely as possible following event notification. An area (triangle) about 1100 feet long and 500 feet wide (at the widest part) was lightly sprayed with oil. The remediation contractor, with permission of the OCD and the Landowner plans to sample the area surface and 1' BGS to determine the extent of the contamination. Once confined that the contamination is surface only, the area will be disced to aerate the soi8l and a microbiological agent administered to remediate the soil.
