State Park Closures


Bluewater Lake (505) 876-2391
On March 22, 2022, The Boat ramp and courtesy dock at Bluewater Lake will be temporarily closed. This is due to construction of a new boat ramp that will give greater access to visitors once complete. If you wish to launch your vessel you may at your own risk as there will only be undeveloped shoreline until construction is complete. We apologize for the inconvenience. 3/22/2022 - 7/31/2022

Stage II Fire Restrictions: Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, charcoal, coal, or wood stove is prohibited. The use of devices fueled solely by liquid petroleum or LPG fuels that can be turned on and off is allowed. Such devices can only be used in an area that is barren or cleared of all overhead and surrounding flammable materials within three (3) feet of the device. Smoking is prohibited, except within an enclosed vehicle or building. 6/24/2022 - ongoing

The boat ramps in the State Park North Area are closed. There is a boat ramp open in the Army Corps of Engineers area on the South Side. Lake levels are very low and boaters are advised to use caution. Shoreline launching of trailered boats is not allowed. Hand launching of paddle craft and smaller vessels from the shoreline is allowed. Trailered boats must launch from the south boat ramp. 2/7/2022 - ongoing
Central Campground is closed. 4/1/2022 - ongoing
Beginning June 1, 2022 the park water system will be closed. There will be no water available and the comfort stations and dump station will be closed. Visitors are encouraged to bring all their water to the park for their stay. 5/10/2022 - ongoing

El Vado Lake (575) 588-7247
A large-scale renovation project of El Vado Dam has forced the closure of the Day Use Area at El Vado Dam. Please stay clear of all construction areas. 4/11/2022 - ongoing
Due to issues with water supply, the comfort station will be will be available during limited hours only (usually between 4 and 6 pm daily). Additionally, treated water is available in the afternoons and by request, as needed. Please bring adequate water storage containers, and we can resupply as required. Apologies for any inconvenience. 6/4/2022 - 12/1/2022

Continue established indefinite closure of Cliffs Area due to cliff hazards because of low water levels. 9/25/2019 - ongoing
The Boat ramp at South Monticello remains closed due to low water levels. 4/2/2021 - ongoing

Heron Lake (575) 588-7470
Heron Lake is closed to the use of operation of all Off Highway Vehicles (OHV's). This includes but is not limited to Off Highway Motorcycles, Side-By Sides, Quad Runners, and Snowmobiles. 7/27/2021 - ongoing
The stairway to the suspension bridge located at Rio Chama Trailhead is closed. Access to the Rio Chama can be gained using the BOR access road. 8/22/2021 - ongoing
Rio Chama Trailhead and access to the Rio Chama Trail is closed due to construction in the area. Access to the Rio Chama River can be gained at the North El Vado Day Use Area. 12/20/2021 - ongoing
Willow, Sierra Vista, and La Laja boat ramps are closed due to low water levels. Small paddle-craft can be launched from the shoreline or at the Primitive boat ramp. 5/17/2022 - ongoing
Due to low water levels we are unable to provide courtesy docks for boaters. 6/22/2022 - ongoing

Morphy Lake State Park is currently closed due to the Calf Canyon Fire. 4/22/2022 - ongoing
Stage III Fire Restrictions. The park is closed to visitors due to extreme fire danger. The park will remain closed until further notice. 5/23/2022 - ongoing

The Oliver Lee ranch house is closed and no tours are being offered at this time. 3/31/2021 - ongoing
The Oliver Lee Ranch House can be viewed with guided tours only. 1/4/2022 - 1/30/2099

Pecos Canyon State Park is CLOSED. The closure is a joint effort with the National Forest System land, roads, and trails located closed within the boundaries of the Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest. The purpose of the closure is to protect public health and safety due to extreme fire danger in the Restricted Area. 6/16/2022 - 7/29/2022
