Bluewater Lake is now closed to boating. The surface is approximately 80 % frozen over, with ice thickness at around 2 inches and less. Please refrain from going out onto the ice at this time.

Stage II Fire Restrictions: Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, charcoal, coal, or wood stove is prohibited. The use of devices fueled solely by liquid petroleum or LPG fuels that can be turned on and off is allowed. Such devices can only be used in an area that is barren or cleared of all overhead and surrounding flammable materials within three (3) feet of the device. Smoking is prohibited, except within an enclosed vehicle or building.

(Notice - Lea Lake Campground at Bottomless Lakes State Park will be closed to Camping and Recreation starting November 4th, 2024, thru November 18th, 2024. This closure is due to electrical upgrade of the Lea Lake Campground and will affect all campsites and comfort station. If you have questions about this closure, please visit the New Mexico State Parks website emnrd.nm.gov or call the Bottomless Lakes State Park Visitor Center at (575) 988-3638.)

Trail Closures-The Colin Neblett backcountry including Tolby and Maverick Trails are closed to all entry during deer fawning and elk calving May 15-July 31. Clear Creek Trail remains open May 15-July 31. The backcountry and ALL trails are closed during big game hunts as published in the NM Rules and Info Booklet. Licensed hunters and their hunting party are exempt from closures during their hunt/scouting period.

Lakeview Trail from US Highway 64 to the Visitor Center will be close on Sunday, July 7th, 2024 due to the decommission of the lagoons. It is unknown when the trail will reopen.

Cieneguilla Day use area will be closes after the elk hunts in November and reopen in the Spring.

Moreno Day Use and Six Mile Day Use areas are subject to seasonal closures due winter weather. Closures will last until staff has remove snow and made areas accessible.

Eagle Nest Lake surface is temporarily closed to all activities due to recent winter weather conditions that created unsafe conditions. The lake is currently closed to all watercrafts including canoes, kayaks, inflatables, and all types of motorboats. The lake is also closed to all foot/patron traffic. Park staff will continue to monitor ice conditions for ice fishing.

A large-scale renovation project of El Vado Dam has forced the closure of the Day Use Area at El Vado Dam. Please stay clear of all construction areas. As a result of the ongoing repair work at the Dam, extremely low lake levels have left too little lake surface to allow for motorboat operation. Also, angling, ice fishing, and swimming opportunities are all but nonexistent.

With the onset of winter temperatures, the comfort station will be winterized and closed from October 15, 2024 until mid-May 2025.

Heron Lake is closed to the use of operation of all Off Highway Vehicles (OHV's). This includes but is not limited to Off Highway Motorcycles, Side-By Sides, Quad Runners, and Snowmobiles.

Rio Chama Trailhead and access to the Rio Chama Trail is closed due to construction in the area. Access to the Rio Chama River can be gained at the North El Vado Day Use Area.

Seasonal availability of the Lodge is from May 1 through October 31 each year.

Lake Alice has no fishable shoreline and is posted as closed due to hazardous ice conditions. Lake Maloya shoreline is approximately half frozen. Ice continues to form at night and then melt away during the day. Hazardous ice condition signs are posted but the lake remains open to shoreline fishing in allowable locations.
