Stage II Fire Restrictions: Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire, campfire, charcoal, coal, or wood stove is prohibited. The use of devices fueled solely by liquid petroleum or LPG fuels that can be turned on and off is allowed. Such devices can only be used in an area that is barren or cleared of all overhead and surrounding flammable materials within three (3) feet of the device. Smoking is prohibited, except within an enclosed vehicle or building

Trail Closures-The Colin Neblett backcountry including Tolby and Maverick Trails are closed to all entry during deer fawning and elk calving May 15-July 31. Clear Creek Trail remains open May 15-July 31. The backcountry and ALL trails are closed during big game hunts as published in the NM Rules and Info Booklet. Licensed hunters and their hunting party are exempt from closures during their hunt/scouting period.

Coyote Creek 575-387-2328
Dump Station, South End Over Flow Area, Encinco Loop, and sites 21, 22, 24 will be closed until May 1st 2026 due to construction.

Cieneguilla Day use area will be closed after the elk hunts in November and reopen in the Spring.

Lakeview Campground will be closed until further notice due to construction and upgrades to the campground. There is no other camping allowed in the park.

Due to the onset of sub-freezing temperatures, the comfort station at El Vado is winterized and closed from October 15 through May 15.

Please be advised that the South Monticello boat ramp is currently closed due to low water levels. We anticipate reopening when water levels increase, and conditions allow.

The Rock Canyon Comfort Station will be closed for the season effective, 10/1/2025 through 4/30/2026.

Due to the inherent hazards posed by low water levels, the Cliffs Area of the state park will remain closed indefinitely.

As of Oct. 20th, 2025 the water for the electrical sites has been shut off due to freezing temperatures. Water is available at the boat launch area of the park for you to fill your campers if necessary. Please plan accordingly for the weather when planning your trip to the lake.

Campsites #1 through #30 are closed for the season, Campsites #1E through #5E will remain open throughout the winter. Lower Lake Fork Rd. remains closed for updates and construction. Lake Fork Rd. will close November 1st or earlier, weather dependent. Please plan your trip accordingly.

Due to the onset of sub-freezing winter temperatures, the comfort stations at Island View and Blanco campgrounds are winterized and closed from October 15 through May 15.

Rio Chama Trailhead and access to the Rio Chama Trail is closed due to construction in the area. Access to the Rio Chama River can be gained at the North El Vado Day Use Area.

Heron Lake is closed to the use of operation of all Off Highway Vehicles (OHV's). This includes but is not limited to Off Highway Motorcycles, Side-By Sides, Quad Runners, and Snowmobiles.

Day use area closed to vehicle and foot traffic from 9/29/2025 through 04/30/2026. No camping is permitted at or within the day use area or riverbed. We thank you for your patience and look forward to seeing you this summer.

Please be advised that the main comfort station and dump station at Leasburg Dam State Park will be closed for improvements starting Thursday, February 26th, through mid-May 2026. During this time, portable restrooms and handwashing stations will be available on-site. Potable water can be accessed via the communal spigots at the Greasewood Campground.
